Fixed screen
Up to 1400 x 2500mm, no opening leaf. Light without a door.
Hinged door
Up to 900mm wide (400mm minimum) x 2200mm, up to 60kg, single or double.
Pivot door
Up to 2000mm wide (400mm minimum) x 2500mm, up to 100kg, standard or soft-close.
Sliding door
Up to 1200mm wide (400mm minimum) x 2500mm, up to 100kg, contemporary or vintage rail.
Will it actually make the room quieter?
The real tested figures, not a marketing line
We'd rather show you the tested numbers than just say "quieter". A fixed screen with 8.8mm infill glass reduces sound by 38dB (Rw), and with the Smart Acoustic Panel that becomes 36dB with slightly less see-through. A single door with a single-point lock manages 34dB, and with a multi-point lock that rises to 37dB, the best-performing door option. For context, 35 to 37dB is the recognised benchmark for a standard office or meeting room needing decent speech privacy, so these figures genuinely mean something rather than just sounding reassuring.

"Crittall" comes from Crittall Windows Ltd, founded in Braintree, Essex in 1884, whose slim steel-framed windows and doors became closely tied to the Art Deco look. A genuine Crittall product is hand-crafted steel with welded corners. "Crittall-style" is now the industry's own term for that same slim-grid, industrial aesthetic, most commonly made in aluminium rather than steel. It's become popular again for exactly the reason it worked a hundred years ago, a narrow frame with a lot of glass reads as a boundary without actually closing a room off.
Real steel is generally the more expensive option, and being steel, it's prone to corrosion in humid spots unless it's regularly rust-treated and repainted. An aluminium alternative like AluSpace gets a very similar look at a lower cost and weight, with a low-maintenance, corrosion-resistant finish, so you get the aesthetic without the upkeep that comes with genuine steel.
Is aluminium a compromise, or a genuinely good choice?
The corners aren't welded. They're joined with 45-degree mitred cuts and crimped corner cleats, a cold-formed mechanical joint that gives the strength without the weld. It's a different construction method to genuine steel, not a lesser one, and it's honestly how the system's actually built. It's worth saying plainly, because a welded joint sounds stronger if you don't know how a cold-formed cleat actually works, and we'd rather explain it than let you assume the worse.
Whatever the room, Building Regulations still apply. Any glazing in a "critical location", inside a door, close to a door edge, or low down in a panel, has to be safety glazing that breaks safely rather than shattering dangerously. That applies to an internal screen exactly as it does to external glazing, so a full-height panel next to a door or down to floor level is specified with that in mind as standard, not as an optional extra.

How much do Crittall-style internal screens or doors cost?
We don't publish a fixed price because every configuration and opening's different, no minimum job size either. The honest way to get a real figure is a quick survey, and there's no obligation.
Do I need planning permission to add an internal screen or door?
Usually not. Internal alterations like this are normally permitted development. The one honest exception is a listed building, which needs Listed Building Consent regardless of how minor the work is. Building Regulations, including safety glazing, still apply either way.
