What they look like, across materials
Four door types, three of them our own real installations, so you can see the range before you choose.

The composite, bi-fold and French photographs are genuine Wilshaw installations. The AluSpace image remains the manufacturer's own product render, since no real AluSpace installation photography exists yet.
uPVC, composite or aluminium: which door is right for you?
The real trade-off between the three, in plain terms.
| uPVC | Composite | Aluminium | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Lowest upfront cost | Sits in the middle | Highest material cost |
| Durability | Shortest realistic lifespan before hardware needs attention | Resists warping, swelling and fading better than plain uPVC | Most dimensionally stable, least prone to warping over time |
| Security | Can be specified to PAS24 with an upgrade | Many ranges can be specified to Secured by Design accreditation | Can be specified to PAS24 with an upgrade |
| Thermal performance | Meets the Part L 1.4 W/m²K standard | Matches or beats uPVC on insulation | Meets the Part L 1.4 W/m²K standard, at a higher cost |
| Best suited to | Back and side doors, tighter budgets | Front doors, the most popular local choice | Bi-fold and patio doors, contemporary homes |

We supply and fit, with no hidden costs
Every door we sell, we survey, supply and fit ourselves. There's no separate warehouse sale and no hunting for your own fitter afterwards, it's the same small local team from quote to finish.
- One team, survey to fit
- Installation quality decides how a door actually performs, not just the spec sheet
- Supply and fit means we measure it, order it and fit it, with nothing handed off

From first call to a fitted door
No salesman, just a straight process.
Enquiry
Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp or the form and tell us what you need. Josh calls you back to talk it through.
Survey
Josh surveys the opening himself, measures it up, and sends you a clear, fixed-price quote.
The fit
Once you accept, we book the fit in and install to schedule, clearing up after ourselves.
The bits people worry about before they enquire
What if I don't know which door type I need?
That's what the free survey and quote are for. We'll talk through the options and help you decide, no pressure.
What if there's a problem with my existing opening once you get started?
Josh surveys the opening properly beforehand, so any problem gets spotted and priced before work starts, not during it.
Will I be pushed to buy something I don't need?
No. Every quote is free and no-obligation. You get a price and a choice, not a sales pitch.
One point of contact
Why people pick Wilshaw for their doors
Josh surveys, quotes and manages every job himself, so you're dealing with one person throughout, not a call centre. Every installation carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee, insurance-backed through Assure, separate from each manufacturer's own product guarantee on materials.
- Owner-led, one point of contact from quote to fit
- Supplies and fits every door type on this page
- 10-year Assure-backed workmanship guarantee

Cost
What a new external door costs
Every door is quoted, not price-listed
We don't publish a price list because a door's cost depends on the material, size, glazing, hardware and how easy the opening is to access. Two doors that look similar on a supplier's website can price up very differently once they're actually measured.
- The survey covers the opening, access and what you actually need
- The written quote includes the door, hardware and fitting, with nothing hidden
- Material, size, glazing, hardware and access are what actually move the price
Not just a nice colour
What actually makes a door secure and well-insulated
Two doors can look identical and perform very differently once you look past the finish.
- PAS24 and Secured by Design are the recognised UK security benchmarks, tested well beyond a five-lever lock. Many uPVC and aluminium doors can be specified to PAS24 with an upgrade, and composite ranges can be specified to Secured by Design accreditation
- Glazed external doors are generally held to the same 1.4 W/m²K U-value ceiling as replacement windows under Building Regulations
- How well a door performs in practice comes down to installation: packing, shimming, drainage and getting the compression seal aligned properly

Natasha Evans
Josh and his team worked incredibly hard replacing all of the windows and doors in our house, including fitting a beautiful bifold door in place of our old French doors. We could not be happier with the results. The quality of the workmanship was excellent, and Josh was fantastic with communication throughout the whole process. He was reliable, professional, and kept us updated every step of the way. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for high-quality work and great service.
Andy
Josh installed our new windows, triple track doors, roof lights and front door at our house in Bournemouth. A very professional, tidy and efficient service from beginning to end. Would highly recommend Wilshaw Glazing.
Tevez Ishmael

How much does a new external door cost?
Composite doors typically run £1,000 to £1,800 fitted, uPVC doors £800 to £1,500, and aluminium bi-folds £3,000 to £5,000 for the set. Where you land depends on size, glazing, hardware and access. Our cost guide breaks it down, or get in touch for a free, fixed-price quote.
What's the current style or trend in front doors, and can I see real local examples?
Composite doors in anthracite and grey tones are the most requested finish locally right now. The gallery above shows the range across materials, though it's currently manufacturer photography rather than our own completed installations.
Do you actually fit the doors you sell, or just supply them?
We fit every door we sell. Josh surveys the opening, we supply the door and fit it ourselves, there's no separate warehouse sale to sort a fitter for afterwards.
I still don't know which material to choose, can you help?
Yes, that's exactly what the comparison above and the free survey are for. Have a look at the trade-offs, then we'll talk through what suits your house specifically.
Do I need planning permission for a new front door?
Most straightforward door replacements count as permitted development and don't need planning permission, but it's always the local planning authority's call, especially on listed buildings or in conservation areas.
What happens after I enquire? Will someone measure up, and how long does it take?
Josh will call you back to talk through what you need, then come out and survey the opening himself. Timings vary by job, so we'll give you a realistic figure once we've seen it.
