What actually drives the cost
Roughly what does a uPVC window cost, and why won't we just say a number?
We don't publish a price list for uPVC windows, because no two jobs are the same. Josh surveys every job himself, measures it properly and brings the physical colour swatches so you can see exactly what you're choosing. Your measurements go to the supplier, and you get a proper written quote back, not a guess over the phone. If you go ahead, it's 50% deposit to get the windows on order, a 3 to 5 week lead time while they're made, then the remaining 50% once the job's finished.

uPVC windows, explained properly
We fit uPVC windows across Poole and Bournemouth using the Rehau Total 70 casement, supplied through Polyframe, as our standard range. It comes in two profiles, chamfered and sculptured. Chamfered is the original uPVC look, a single flat angled edge. Sculptured came along later as a softer, more decorative option with a curved edge. There's no difference in how well either one performs, no difference in thermal efficiency, security or how the window weathers. It's purely a look, so the right choice comes down to what suits your house, not which one's "better".
Underneath the finish, what actually matters for performance is the frame itself. The Total 70 profile is built with multiple internal chambers running the depth of the frame, and those chambers trap still air, which is a poor conductor of heat. Generally speaking, more and wider chambers mean better baseline thermal performance for a given wall thickness. That said, the frame is only half the story. It works alongside the glazing unit, not instead of it, which is why we always talk about the window's declared U-value as a whole, not just the frame on its own.
Worth knowing before you decide
Are uPVC windows worth it, and what are the downsides?
UK Building Regs give replacement windows two ways to comply: either a maximum U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, or a Window Energy Rating of Band B or better, which factors in solar gain and air leakage alongside U-value. Our declared 1.3 W/m²K clears the U-value route comfortably, and the triple-glazed best case of 0.8 W/m²K goes well beyond it. As for the downsides, uPVC won't give you the exact grain and texture of real timber, and it isn't repairable the way timber can be sanded and repainted. If a section's damaged, it usually needs replacing rather than repairing.
- Condensation on the inside of the glass after a replacement is almost always a ventilation issue, not a fault with the window. More airflow usually clears it.
- Condensation between the panes is different. That means the sealed unit's seal has failed, and it needs replacing, not wiping.
- uPVC windows don't devalue a property. A well-fitted, well-specified window is generally seen as a straightforward improvement.

How much do uPVC windows cost, and why won't you just give me a number?
It depends on the size, number of openings, glazing spec and finish, so we don't publish a fixed price. Every job gets a proper survey and a written quote instead of a guess.
Is uPVC better or cheaper than aluminium?

What are the disadvantages of uPVC windows?
It won't match the grain and texture of real timber, and a damaged section is usually replaced rather than repaired. For most homes, that's a fair trade for the performance and the price.
